Niki Anjes Productions

Niki produces her own work under Niki Anjes Productions and currently focus clearly on the dance style Krump. Under this label she works as a choreographer, dancer and employer. With Niki Anjes Productions she wants to draw more attention to the street style Krump. With my new piece «Comfortable Me», I brought this dance style to an institutional stage for the first time in German-speaking Switzerland in February 2024. The goal of Niki Anjes Productions is to continue working with krumpers and to show and communicate the wonderful expression of this dance in Switzerland. Through Niki Anjes Productions, she wants to bring the aesthetics of krump closer to the audience. It is also about expanding our western patriarchal concept of art dance and integrating street dance styles and giving them visibility.
The ensemble of "Comfortable Me" under the direction of Niki Anjes Stalder wants to establish itself as a krump dance company in Switzerland. STAY TUNED!

Krump is a dance style and urban culture that emerged in the 2000s in the poorer neighbourhoods of South Central in Los Angeles, California. Living conditions were characterised by poverty, violence, gang warfare, drug dealing, brutal police arrests and the race riots of 1992. Thomas Johnson created the character of Tommy the Clown to liven up the birthday parties in these neighbourhoods. He created the new dance Clown Dancing, which was quickly adopted by the children. The founders Tight Eye, Big Mijo, Lil C, Miss Prissy and Slayer created Krump as a new form of expression and a way of channelling the negative energy of their surroundings.

Today, krump is considered an independent, global and urban culture with its own dress code, music, festivals and competitions. Its practice was popularised by the Battles, among other things. Despite its development and expansion, the dancers and communities continue to hold on to the original roots and values of the dance.

So much for Niki Anjes Productions...
